first you're going to need some context.

this is a photo of kaknästornet ("the kaknäs tower").

*

It's a broadcasting tower located in an area called "ladugårdsgärdet" in stockholm.

it was built in 1967 and stands 170m tall (186 yards, 560 feet). it handles both TV, radio and satellite broadcasts.

it used to house a restaurant on the top floor, but ever since 2018 the entire tower has been closed to the public, citing some pretty vague "security reasons".

you can read the entire wikipedia page yourself here, if you'd like:

now stockholm is a pretty small city, all things considered, and 170m is a pretty high tower, so it goes without saying that the tower can be seen from various locations around town.

when i had just moved here, i would often be caught by surprise by how often i would see it. i'd see the tower from my work window, get on with my day, and later that night, in some completely different part of town, I would turn my head and, in the distance, see the tower.

it got to the point where it became an in-joke with my girlfriend where, whenever i'd see the tower, i'd point it out and say something along the lines of "there he is! always present, always watching."

*

now i don't know exactly when, but at some point it went from just a silly joke to genuine curiosity.

whenever i'd see it, i'd pull out my phone to check google maps to see how far away i actually was,

and this is when it got.. strange.

*

it should be mentioned that im still not super familiar with the layout of stockholm, but i swear that at several points i could see the tower when i should not have been able to.

not only because of the supposed distance, but because of the *location*.

i brought this up with friends and colleagues whenever i got the chance, but they usually just shrugged it off.

"it's a big tower!" they'd say.

*

i didnt know what to make of it, but i started noting down in my phone whenever and wherever it happened for... future reference? or something, i don't know.

*

anyway, time passed, life got busy, moved to another part of town, got a new phone, lost the notes, you know how it goes. kinda forgot about the tower.

until just the other day when i got back a roll of developed film from the lab and found this photo:

[friends face censored for privacy reasons]

now as you can see,
just to the right of my friend,
is the top of the tower, but the thing is...

it shouldn't be there.

*

i took this screenshot to show you:

the red square is where kaknästornet is.

the big round building in the background of the photo is avicii arena (formerly "globen"),

which is located where the blue square is.

first of all, that's over 5km (3.1 miles) of uneven terrain, buildings and woods.

second of all, even if you somehow *could* see the tower from there, notice where the tower is in the photo.

in this image, the pink square illustrates where the photo was taken, and the pink lines indicate the direction the camera is pointing.

*

it's *behind* globen.

*

now i'd like to ask you to take note of these buildings to the left of my friend:

because this is the next photo from the roll:

not only is the tower at the complete opposite end of town from where it is "originally" supposed to be,

in-between the two photos, taken just minutes apart, it's again moved to a completely different position.

*

finally, i dug around and managed to find this photo online, taken from the restaurant in the tower while it was still open to the public:

if this was taken from inside the tower,

what am i looking at here?

*

and that's.. all i have, for now.

I don't know what to make of this.

I'm going to leave you with this screenshot, taken from the wikipedia page (which you can go read for yourself if you don't believe me):
